Verse of the Day: Psalm 92:13–14

Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.

Psalm 92:13–14 NKJV

Staying Planted

Have you heard the “choose your hard” sayings or seen the quotes? We can wish that life weren’t hard, but it is. And we get to choose our hard. Hard conversations, life decisions, location decisions, career decisions…any of it is hard.

You get to decide what you will allow into your life. And you get to decide how you’ll handle the outcomes, the consequences of your decisions.

We all have this in common. God gave us free choice and free will.

  • If you’ve decided to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior…

  • If you’ve chosen God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit…

  • If you’ve decided that He is God and you will not put another God before Him…

  • If you’ve decided to be a Christian…

Then trust this to be true: the enemy would gladly snuff out every bit of light that God placed in you.

If he cannot destroy you outright, he will settle for distraction. He will use the hard season, the slow season, the confusing season, or anything else to pull you away from God’s assignment for you.

He will send anything to keep you from being effective in what God said to do.

But staying planted is a choice; it’s not something that happens to you. Staying focused is a decision you make, again and again, even when everything around you is shifting.

God has always been in the business of planting people in difficult places and equipping them to produce anyway. He told the children of Israel in Jeremiah 29 that they were going to be there for a while, so they may as well build. Plant gardens. Have families. Pray for the city where He placed them, because when it increased, they would increase. Do not decrease. Do not shrink back. Do not pull away from what He said to do.

That was not a suggestion. That was a commission.

And it’s still a commission today. God says build and grow. He also says plant, produce, flourish, and bear fruit. That’s not just in the easy seasons but in old age, in the long seasons, and in the seasons that have gone on longer than you expected.

Staying planted in the house of the Lord means you do not let what happens to you determine whether you do what God said. It means you stay focused on the plan, the purpose, and the specific vision He gave you.

Do not focus on someone else's vision. Stay focused on yours. To be clear, some people’s vision is to support, encourage, and help others to build. And that’s fine. Because for as many people as there are on this earth, God made each one uniquely, with a unique assignment and a unique way to carry it out.

The fruit you are called to grow is not the same as anyone else's. But the command is the same for all of us.

Stay planted. Lean in. Do it His way.

What is trying to distract or destroy you right now, and are you making the daily choice to stay planted in the house of the Lord, regardless?

That’s where the real benefits exist.

The choice is yours; you get to decide.

Live Inspired,

Yvette
